Based on the true story of Addison White, an escaped slave

Grades: 3rd – 8th

Curriculum Connections: Literature/Reading, History, Music

Addison White was a slave who took the “railroad” to freedom, escaping from Kentucky traveling north to Mechanicsburg, Ohio. Befriended by a farmer, Addison worked for his meals by day and learned to read and write at night. Federal marshals suspected the farmer to be an abolitionist who prepared to arrest Addison to return him to slavery, but Addison was rescued by the citizens of the town. Freedom Bound weaves together storytelling, drama and music to bring an important chapter of American history to life.
